In the next year, we are poised to witness an explosion in the availability of electric vehicles (EVs). Over the next five years, this increase will be exponential. You’ll find an even greater selection than today, leaving you spoilt for choice.
As of this writing, we are beginning to enjoy a significant range of both cars and SUVs in the EV sector. In the former category, it is still dominated by the vehicle that democratized access to electric cars a decade ago: the Nissan Leaf.
Alma Nissan, part of the L’Ami Junior group, invites you to explore online or in person at your dealership in Lac-Saint-Jean near Saint-Bruno. Discover the new Nissan LEAF electric car, as well as our inventory of new and used Nissan vehicles. Whether you’re looking for a sporty Nissan car, a competitively priced 2020 Nissan Rogue SUV, or to take advantage of a promotion on a Qashqai, your Alma Nissan dealership is ready to meet everyone’s needs.
Let’s explore why the Leaf continues to occupy the top spot in its category when compared to its two main rivals, the Chevrolet Bolt and the Hyundai Ioniq.
While not to detract from its rivals, the Nissan Leaf stands out as a luxury vehicle beside them. It’s not that Chevrolet and Hyundai offer low-end vehicles; it’s that Nissan has really upped the ante with the current generation of the Leaf. Refreshed in 2018, it has significantly upgraded in quality to the point where stepping inside feels like entering a high-end car environment. The sophisticated appearance is evident, and the touch and feel of the materials throughout the cabin consistently speak of quality.
This also translates to the road, where the 2021 Nissan Leaf distinguishes itself from its rivals. While the Hyundai Ioniq manages well, it doesn’t offer the smooth ride or soundproofing found in the Leaf. The Chevrolet Bolt, on the other hand, needs a rethink as it offers seats that are anything but comfortable. Moreover, its bouncy ride and the amount of external noise that penetrates the cabin hardly contribute to a peaceful on-board experience.
The three cars in question offer different and varied ranges. The best, undisputedly, is the Chevrolet Bolt. However, considering its lack of comfort, the additional 50 kilometers it offers over the LEAF does not make a significant difference. Driving 417 kilometers only to get out with a backache is worse than traveling 363 kilometers in Nissan’s “zero gravity” seats, the most comfortable in the industry.
Furthermore, Nissan offers two options: a more affordable version with less range (240 km) for those with more concise travel needs. Hyundai follows a similar approach with its Ioniq, but in both cases, the freedom offered is less than that promised by the equivalent versions of the LEAF, with respective ranges of 200 and 274 km for the Hyundai model.
Finally, what sets the Nissan Leaf apart in its own class is the driving experience it offers. While flaws can be found in the Chevrolet Bolt and Hyundai Ioniq, the Leaf leaves nothing to be desired. The level of comfort, handling, vehicle stability, tranquility, and the feel provided by the steering are all on another level.
For all these reasons, this is why the Nissan Leaf remains the most compelling electric vehicle on the market.
