Over a decade after the launch of its first electric vehicle, Nissan is accelerating with an ambitious electrification plan. Learn more about these goals, as well as current and upcoming models, including the concepts that have been unveiled.

What are the different Nissan models?

For now, Nissan continues to produce its gasoline vehicles, including:

As for electric vehicles, the brand currently offers only one model: the Nissan Leaf. Soon, you will also be able to purchase the first electric SUV, the Nissan Ariya, which you may have heard about.

However, Nissan does not intend to stop there: on the contrary, the brand is just beginning its green shift, planning 23 new electrified models worldwide, including 15 fully electric vehicles.

For now, Nissan Canada does not offer any hybrid vehicles. Given the plans unveiled by Nissan, this could well happen in the coming years with e-POWER technology. This system is a hybrid in which the electric motor is supported by a gasoline range extender, rather than the other way around.

Speaking of technologies, the brand also plans to evolve batteries to eliminate cobalt. This will reduce costs for the manufacturer and very likely for consumers as well!

The Nissan Leaf, a Pioneer in Its Class

The Nissan Leaf has been around for more than 10 years: it was, at the time, the first electric car marketed!

Despite increasingly strong competition, it is a car that continues to attract with its many qualities. According to Mathieu St-Pierre of L’Annuel de l’automobile 2023:

“Its success can be attributed to its pleasing style, choice of batteries, and interesting price range.”

For 2023, it has undergone subtle tweaks, the most visible of which is certainly the presence of new 17-inch wheels with a more avant-garde design.

The car offers two electric drivetrains; here are their technical characteristics:

Battery 40 kWhBattery 60 kWh
Power147 hp
Torque236 lb-ft
Range240 km
Combined Consumption2.1 Le/100 km

The electric vehicle subsidy still applies to the purchase of a Nissan Leaf, both federally and provincially.

The Nissan Ariya, First Electric SUV

It’s been a while since the Nissan SUV was announced, but this time it will be the right one: the Nissan Ariya will be part of the 2023 models. Due to the pandemic, production had been delayed over the last two years.

With its different version options, two choices of batteries (65 or 90 kWh), and the option to equip it with all-wheel drive, the Ariya adapts to all needs. Its range can go up to 482 km (Venture+) and its power, up to 389 horses (Platine+ and Premiere)!

While the Leaf remains quite traditional in its aesthetic aspect, the Ariya represents a new era at Nissan. The design is modernized both outside and inside, where technologies are honored.

Its large screen connecting digital instrumentation and the multimedia system, both measuring 12.3 inches, is one of the first aspects that one notices, but there is much more to discover! Find the electric vehicle for sale soon at your dealership.

Four New Concepts Unveiled

At Nissan, electric vehicles will multiply in the coming years. The manufacturer already gives a taste of its next models by revealing four concepts:

Each of them will have distinct characteristics. The Chill-Out, for example, will be an SUV based on the CMF-EV platform and sharing some traits with the Ariya. The Hang-Out will also be an SUV, but more box-shaped. The concept even includes swiveling seats!

Nissan will also introduce its first electric truck to consumers with the Surf-Out, which should offer good off-road capabilities. Finally, the Max-Out will be a sports car.

In all cases, all-wheel drive is announced, appealing to drivers looking for stability and confidence on wheels. This also implies the use of at least two electric motors, announcing generous power.
